Small-space garden
design & install
Measured drawings, planting plans, and full install for courtyards, side yards, and townhouse gardens. From first walk-through to the last plant in the ground.
A one-woman studio for small residential gardens across Old Town and Del Ray. Designed, installed, and tended by hand.
I'm Claudia. My background reflects an evolving love affair with the outdoors–from mountain summits in Nepal to backyard bonfires in the Covid days. Along the way, I’ve been a farmhand and a fly-fishing guide, worked for a small oyster grower and a large chicken producer. And of course, I’ve gardened! At Heath Gardens, I create approachable, personal outdoor spaces for busy people. I hold an MBA from University of Virginia and am a Master Gardener in Northern Virginia.
Every garden here is drawn by hand, planted by hand, and looked after by hand. I keep a short client list on purpose — so that pruning is done in season, containers are refreshed with the weather, and the work stays close to the ground.

Seasonal visits for clients who want their garden cared for the way it was designed. Selective pruning, bed editing, divisions, and quiet upkeep — no blowers, no crews.
Raised beds, kitchen borders, and small orchards planned around how you actually cook. Variety selection, soil building, and a season-by-season plan you can follow yourself.
Porch urns, window boxes, and stoop pots designed four times a year. Delivered planted, refreshed in place, and rotated with the season.
Half-day sessions at your garden or mine — pruning, seed-starting, container design, or putting a bed to bed. For one person or a small group of friends.
We meet on site, look at light, soil, and the shape of the space. You tell me what you want to grow and how you want to live in it. No charge for the first hour.
I measure the site and come back with a planting plan on paper — plant by plant, bed by bed, with a seasonal calendar and a written scope.
I source plants from regional growers, amend the soil, and plant the garden myself over a few quiet days. Mulched, watered in, and walked through with you.
If you'd like, I stay on for maintenance — pruning in winter, editing in spring, refreshing containers, adjusting as the garden settles into itself.
A few lines about the space is enough to start.
